The Largest Fancy Vivid Orange Diamond in the World Goes to Auction
Christie’s Geneva will be auctioning “THE ORANGE” diamond; a pear cut, VS1, type 11a weighing 14.82 carats. This is the largest fancy vivid orange diamond ever to appear for sale at auction. With a pre-estimate value of $17 million to $20 million it will be a very exciting auction to watch.
In 2007, Harry Winston purchased The Pumpkin Diamond, a 5.54 carat fancy vivid orange at a Sotheby’s auction on the evening before Halloween. Though it is small in comparison to other important color diamonds, it one of the largest fancy vivid orange diamonds in the world and sold for $1.3 million dollars six years ago. With “The Orange” diamond being nearly 4x larger in size and color diamond value increasing as much as they have over the past few years the sell outcome is sure to set another auction record for color diamonds.
“The Orange “diamond will lead the Christie’s auction of Magnificent Jewels to be held in Geneva on 12 November 2013 and I’ll be sure to let you know what the diamond sells for.
