Kim Kardashian Wants $1 Million Diamond Choker As ‘Push Present’ From Kanye West

According to a post on Kim Kardashian’s website she discusses her push present obsession; a $1 million dollar diamond choker similar to the ones she has worn to the Art + Film Gala.

“Do you guys believe in a push present? I never did, but all of my friends do!!! We have the funniest e-mail chains discussing it. One friend got a special diamond ring she always wanted, and another friend got a new car! I like the idea of a push present—after nine months of pregnancy it’s a sweet and well-deserved thank you. We women go through an entire pregnancy carrying a baby…of course it only makes sense that we get something amazing to show how amazing we are! LOL!”  – Kim Kardashian West

Push presents are usually given in the form of jewelry to the mother of the child by the father as a thank you for carrying the baby and bringing this baby into the world.  This trend has been around for at least a decade now and doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon.

Sure Kanye West can afford to give his wife any bauble that she desires.  After all, experts value her engagement ring to be anywhere from $4 – $8 million dollars.

Ok, so we’re not all mega-wealthy like the West’s… so what about the rest of us?

I personally love the idea of a push present that not only has sentimental value, but real investment value that can actually be passed down to the child when they grow up to be used for education etc. Wouldn’t it be nice to present the child with the piece of jewelry that they have seen their mother wear their whole life, with a GIA Grading Report/Independent Appraisal (showing the current value)  and tell them that it now belongs to them for their University tuition.

A $1 million dollar white diamond choker will more than likely retain its value, but how likely is it to increase in value?  White diamonds typically fluctuate in value and of course it also depends on the color and clarity of the diamonds purchased.  That being said, there has never been any real price volatility with Natural Fancy Color diamonds and they only seem to go up in value each year, so one can assume that this will also be true in the future when there is even less supply.

With an investment-grade Natural Fancy Color Diamond as a push present, you are not only making a mother very happy, but you are investing in the child’s future at the same time if you elect to give it to him/her down the road – say at their 18th birthday. It’s sort of like two gifts in one really!  And, you don’t have to spend a million dollars to do it.  Fancy Yellow diamonds for instance start at approximately $15,000 CDN and can easily be set into a pendant or ring.

With Kim scheduled to give birth as early as Thanksgiving, do you think we’ll see her on the red carpet in the near future with a gorgeous diamond choker?  I somehow think that we will!

Bond Breaks Record at Sotheby’s for 15.20 Carat Fancy Orangy Pink Diamond

When celebrated icons in popular culture can bring such attention to Natural Fancy Color Diamonds it is a wonderful thing -so naturally I was very excited to learn of the fantastic results that Sir Sean Connery had at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels sale in Geneva this past week with two of his beautiful color diamonds.

Beloved James Bond superstar Sir Sean Connery put his 15.20 carat Briolette Cut Fancy Orange Pink VS2 Diamond pendant into Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels auction in Geneva this past week expecting to receive approximately $1.2 million to $2.2 million for the piece.  Imagine the delight when it sold for $4M USD – double the pre-sale estimate.  Sotheby’s has described the sale as a “record bid” for a Fancy Orange-Pink diamond.

In addition to the sale of this pendant, Connery also sold a 5.18 carat pear shape diamond ring, with a winning bid of $249,300 USD, which was slated to come in at approximately $145,600 to $244,300 USD.

Well done indeed!  I am sure having Connery’s name attached to these diamonds didn’t hurt the sales at all, but Natural Fancy Color diamonds have done exceedingly well this Fall continuing to break records and dominate the headlines around the world.

Are Two Stone Diamond Rings the Hot New Trend?

The hot new trend in jewelry design for 2016 has got to be the two stone ring.  The two stone ring is definitely unique in a world of solitaires, and halo encrusted diamond rings.  A woman wearing a ring like this is bound to get people swooning and talking when they see it; whether it is an engagement ring or a cocktail ring or a just because ring!

When the “Ever Us” campaign recently launched featuring a Forevermark (DeBeers) diamond in the two stone design – it caught people’s attention – mainly because of the beauty, simplicity and the symbolism behind it.  The “Ever Us” two stone diamond design represents two equal partners in a relationship with diamonds of equal carat weight and clarity, gently set as though to touch one another in a display of friendship and love.  Not only are jewelers excited by the revival of this design but brides in particular are always looking for new ways to set themselves apart, while the romance of the concept is sure to resonate with brides from all walks of life.

Although the advertising is predominantly for white diamonds, we have seen very significant two stone Natural Fancy Color diamond rings at auction before looking equally, (if not more) beautiful than the white diamond version.

Think about such famous stones as ”The Bulgari Blue”, a two-stone 10.95 carats Fancy Vivid Blue, VS2 triangular cut with a 9.87 carat White G, VS1 triangular cut diamond which sold at Christie’s in October 2010 for $15,762,500 USD.

Although classic designs such as solitaires and side stone settings are classically beautiful, I do hope I get to see a lot more of these two stone settings in the coming year as a refreshing alternative and change to the really popular and somewhat typical settings out there.
